Winter Discoveries

For many people the onset of the winter season can often bring about a state of despondency.  As the vibrant colors of autumn disappear before our eyes, we are left with a natural world that appears to be empty.  Bare trees, dormant grass, wildlife tucked away from the frigid temperatures.  It is as if the entire world is sleeping.  We have grown accustomed to the busy chatter of new life in spring, the lush greenery of summer, the serenity of autumn's warm hues.  And suddenly everything just feels so empty.... or does it?

The beauty of working with small children is that it allows us as adults a window into an incredible world of wonder.  Through that window, a change of season is not viewed as a loss, but as an explosion of new possibilities.  We greeted winter with enthusiasm and excitement for new things to discover and explore!

The bitter temperatures in the early mornings inspired a curiosity about and an investigation of animals that thrive under such frigid conditions:

When the possibility of snow appeared in the forecast, the anticipation inspired icicle growing, snowflake designing, and snow themed creations in clay:

And suddenly, all of that anticipation paid off as we were engulfed in a winter wonderland of snow!

The reality is that in all situations there are countless opportunities for discovery.  The difference is all in how you choose to view the world.
